The Sleeping Baby
Baby's belly is full.
We have already played pattycake,
read a bedtime story,
and shared a lullaby.
She settles into my arms.
The rhythm of the rocking chair soothes us.
Sleep slowly drifts into the nursery.
Tiny fingers curl
around the edge
of a blanket.
Her breath comes, steady and soft.
Her hair sticks out - wisps of flyaway fluff at her nape.
Snuggled in dainty, white footed pajamas -
speckled with pink stars and yellow moons,
she breathes out a sigh of comfort and peace,
and with gratitude, so do I.
Connie, this is so sweet!! With a baby girl in our family, each word is a wonderful description of the peace that comes with her sleep.
ReplyDeleteThe picture is darling; is she your granddaughter?
Yes, this is my granddaughter. I'm a lucky grandma.
DeleteHi Connie, Such a precious photo of Amelia and a darling poem. I know you enjoy your visits with your granddaughter. xo
ReplyDeleteHow precious!! I am glad you get to spend time together.
ReplyDeletevery pretty baby. I'm sure she is relishing the calm in your arms. Sweet poem
ReplyDeleteWonderful poem? Your granddaughter?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is! She is such a joy.
DeleteOh how sweet and the perfect poem to describe her. I know you're enjoying that precious time.
ReplyDeleteYou capture those special moments beautifully. There's nothing quite as wonderful as snuggling with a grandbaby while she sleeps. I kinda miss those days... (But your words make me feel those feelings again.)
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful - such a sweet poem to your sweet granddaughter - this she will treasure when she's older. I so wish I had another little one in the family! They are all growing up so quick. Hunter graduated high school (my first grandkid) at 16 - he was able to accelerate his learning and graduate early.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandy. That is great for Hunter! You must be very proud of him. He's got a jump start to success for his future.
DeleteYour poem is heart touching. It is amazing how much joy a grandchild brings into our lives. Treasure those cuddle moments. My granddaughter is 11, and I still cuddle her on my lap when she comes for a visit and I still tickle her 17 year old brother's back. I imagine this will be the last year she lets me hold her. He however will always want a back rub.
ReplyDeleteShe looks so sweet. Your poem to her is a great treasure for her.
ReplyDeleteOh, how sweet! Precious picture and a wonderful poem.
ReplyDeleteOh dear this is absolutely adorable poem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
ReplyDeleteyour words reflect the pure joy of soothing grateful heart :)
reminds me of days when my babies used to sleep and i would stare at them without blinking my eyes
observing their slightest moves ,curling fingers and smiles that rise and disappear abruptly SOOOOO CUTE!
hugs!
Oh, she is adorable! I love to watch my son sleeping, he is 8 months now, however it is really hard to get him to sleep😊 Have a lovely week☺
