Late August early mornings
bring the raucous complaints
of a flock of geese overhead.
Their squawks and shrieks
rattle through the air,
breaking the peace,
clattering through the empty skies,
echoing,
like a honeymoon-bound car
with strings of soup cans
tied to the back bumper,
and a "Just Married" sign,
taped to the trunk.
The honeymooners travel
with hope and uncertainty,
as the geese do,
to a new season
and a new start.
Geese making travel plans by the lake before taking flight.
Geese really are like honeymooners... they have a hope we should all continue to have... sometimes we let lifes trials take that hope away we once had... the geese are a good reminder of this ♡
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful poem, Daisy. Every time I think I've read my "favorite" poem of yours, you write another one that's just as good, or even better. I especially like the way you compare the sounds of the noisy geese and the cans clanging behind the car. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe have geese on our stock pond all year around. They get used to us being in the pasture and will stay put. One year we saw little ones trailing along between the parents.
ReplyDeleteI love this descriptive poem so much!
ReplyDeleteI could hear the cacophony - great image comparison and fun poem
ReplyDeleteLove this Daisy. it's that time of year when we see them flying south. You did an awesome job on this as usual.
ReplyDeleteGreat metaphor! I like watching them fly.
ReplyDeleteGeese are very noisy honeymooners too ! Whenever the wild geese fly over my domestic geese watch them with much interest. I often wonder if there is some ancient longing left in their hearts that tugs at them as they watch the wild geese.
ReplyDeleteYou're not supposed to feed them, but I have fun feeding the honeymooners. They're amusing, as is your poem. Thank you, Daisy.
ReplyDeleteYou have a way of capturing moments, a photographic poem. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! You have tremendous talent, and I love the photo you chose.
ReplyDeleteHoneymooners-geese-sounds...how nice you've put them together. I like the story of both honemoiners and geese taking flight.
ReplyDeletelove the poem. Love the picture. A new season and a new start. That's what Sept. always feels like to me and I love the contrast you made. Have an amazing weekend Daisy.
ReplyDelete:( this one was sad for me because my engagement just ended - but I liked the part about the geese hahaha

I'm sorry this made you feel sad, Jade. Hugs to you.
DeleteAnother fabulous poem, Daisy! I also love the way you compared their squawking to a honeymoon car with soup cans clattering!
ReplyDeleteJulie
Good one Daisy- you are so talented! I hope you are having a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOlá amiga, vim desejar-lhe um abençoado início de mês, e lindos dias
ReplyDeletede outono que se aproxima!
Doce abraço Marie.
Thank you all, my friends, for your kind words. I really appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem comparing the honeymooners with geese, The hope and the uncertainiy of the geese and the honeymooners is a fabulous comparison.
ReplyDeleteGeese live on hope and ucertainiy at regular intervals and they have mastered the art of living and surviving in worst conditions. I hope the honeymooners can also survive the uncertainities of life and make their lives a grand success.
The scene you described just before the comparison took my breath away. Surely, you are a master of words.
Best wishes
Thank you, Joseph. You are very kind.
DeleteI've noticed a few geese passing on our lake too, Connie. They do sound noisy like the cans on the back of a just married car!
ReplyDeleteI like the comparison. When I got married 43 years ago, we had cans tied to the bumper and my brother packed the interior of the car with balloons!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kimberly and Karen. :) I'm glad you enjoyed this one.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great comparison. you hit the nail on the head.
